— South Carolina coach Frank Martin looked around at his exhilarated players after the Gamecocks beat LSU to gain a share of first in the Southeastern Conference.
"Enjoy being tied for first place. You've earned it," he told them. "But it's not time to celebrate."
Not with No. 22 Kentucky ahead Saturday in another top-of-the league showdown.
South Carolina (21-3, 8-3) got to the top with a 94-83 win over LSU on Wednesday night, breaking away from a tie game with a 17-8 spurt midway through the second half. Sindarius Thornwell scored 24 points — his second straight contest with more than 20 points —and Michael Carrera had 14 of his 16 points after halftime to lead the surprising Gamecocks, who have won their most games since going 21-10 in 2008-09.
And they did it by pulling away late from Ben Simmons and the Tigers (15-9, 8-3), who themselves caught fire once SEC play began after a sluggish preseason.

Looks like Saturdays South Carolina game is going to be a good one and glad we are playing in Rupp. We should be sky high for the game and like our chances. We are on a big up tick and a win on Saturday should really give us some confidence.

It is at South Carolina Bruce. We will probably be the Vegas under dog in this one.

I'm glad SC won that game. I'd hate to go down there with them coming off a loss. Plus it evens everything up for the conference race.
Although I fell asleep at halftime, I wasn't really impressed with what I saw from SC. I think the key will be rebounding. They are athletic and really get after it on the boards. If we beat them in that stat, or just hold our own, I think we win the game.

We can't play soft that's for sure. I would like to see Humphries in there to battle them...

That makes a big difference and I am thinking the game was going to be a breeze. We definitely have to be on top of our game and you can bet they will be wanting to blow us out of the gym. I do think Cal will have us ready and still will win but it isn't going to be easy.
