“Pressure? I really don’t believe in it,” sophomore point guard Tyler Ulis told KSTV. “I’m not trying to live up to others’ expectations. I expect to win. So if we lose, I’m gonna be mad just like the fans.”
With Andrew Harrison gone, Ulis will take full control of the Kentucky offense this season from the point guard position, but he does already have one season under his belt to help make the transition.
Charles Matthews, on the other hand, is one of six new true freshmen on the UK roster, part of recruiting class that finished ranked No. 1 in the nation for 2015.
But being new to the UK environment doesn’t phase the four-star shooting guard from Chicago, but rather, he calls the opportunity to play at program like Kentucky a blessing any lover of the game would enjoy.
“I don’t look at it as pressure,” Matthews told KSTV. “I look at it as a blessing because I think each and every kid out there would love to be in the position that I’m in and my fellow teammates are in. We get to play at Kentucky, play on national television, play in front of millions of fans, and we’re all doing the thing we love — playing basketball. If anybody is doing something they love, they shouldn’t feel pressure; it should be fun.”
