I don't think NBA rumors hurt our recruiting at all for the upcoming season. I am befuddled as to why so many of our targets chose to go else where however.

One reason has to be the platoon system. I think it will be hard to convince so many top 25 recruits into coming to UK with so many other AAs. The last class of 4 recruits, only Towns and Lyles were at the top of the ratings for a long period. Booker and Ulis rose to the top later and were not part of Cal's original top guys he wanted. But we were lucky they were not rated at the top early or we may not have gotten them. The group before them was a large group of 8 recruits which were AAs from the beginning except for Willis and Hawkins. The current group of 4 recruits have onlt Labissiere and Briscoe who are AA's.

I feel that the novelty of Cal being a super coach is not resonating with these newer kids as it has in the past. They may also see that Cal is not the best of the best in game coachs. I still feel he could and should have had at least 2 or 3 more national championships. You can't say he didn't have the personnel to do it.

But when it comes right down to it, we can't find a better coach. I'm curious to see how well he does with the 2016 class. That could be the best indicator of where he stands in the minds of these young kids.
