He sure is at this point in the season. Shooters like Booker are far and few between.
Veteran NBA draft analyst Ed Isaacson of NBADraftBlog.com noted weeks ago that Kentucky freshman Devin Booker could shoot from long range as well as any freshman in the country.
He even noted that Booker might shoot as well as “any college player” because of his size, quick release and compact shooting stroke.
Isaacson took time to offer his insights on Booker:
Question: Has the play of Devin Booker surprised you and has he played himself into serious consideration for being a first-round draft pick yet as some mock drafts are indicating?
Isaacson: “I’d like to say it’s not surprising because he came in with a great reputation as a shooter, but his recent stretch is better than was probably expected halfway through the season. Booker is a legitimate first-round prospect, having the size for the shooting guard position and the ability to defend his position out on the perimeter.”
Question: As of today, what would be pluses and minuses for Booker from a NBA perspective?
Booker: “Obviously his shooting ability, including his range, how quickly he gets into his motion, and a high release. As I mentioned, he has NBA shooting guard size, and to me, the thing that separates him, is his ability to defend as well as he does. The biggest minuses are his ability to create his own shot and his ballhandling/ability to get to the basket. Those minuses are what can keep someone from being a starter versus a role player. Plus, he needs to develop his body, but that will come as he matures.”

It will depend on how Booker does from here on out if he is going to be a lottery pick.

Booker has good floor smarts too! He's come so far this season already!
