This team may not be as good a shooting team as the '96 team but they are a better defensive team than that 1996 team.

Before this season is over this team may very well surpass that team!

They certainly are on track and they look to be getting better by the game.

Except from Lyles and Willis, this team doesn't have good shooters at the forward positions. That's about the only negative I can think of right now with this team (oh, and typical of Coach Cal teams, their free throw percentage might be lower).
THis team would definitely beat the '96 team if they played the '96 team when they were freshmen.

MErcer was a pretty good shooter, but if memory serves me right, he didn't care to play that much defense.

Mercer averaged over 18 points in his sophomore season and had 3.5 rebounds along with 66 steals. He then was drafted 6th in the first round of the 1997 draft by Boston.

Derek Anderson shot 50% from the field and 39.8 from the field goal line while at Kentucky.
