We would have gotten Tracy McGrady and Dirk Nowitzki.

Even with only one future NBA draftee on its roster (C Nazr Mohammed), Kentucky went 35-4 and won the national title in 1998 - a season which would’ve been McGrady’s first in Lexington.

McGrady described his rookie year with the Toronto Raptors in 1997-1998 as “hell.” Something that he could’ve avoided had he been part of the Wildcats’ national championship team while providing a dynamic alternative to starting forwards Scott Padgett and Allen Edwards.

Dirk Nowitzki-Now a 12-time NBA All-Star, NBA champion and lock for the Hall of Fame, Nowitzki has said he would have attended Kentucky for the 1998-99 season if he hadn’t gone pro.

The Wildcats were coming off two national titles in the previous three seasons and already made it to the 1999 Elite Eight without Dirk. Who knows if the German’s sweet stroke could have carried the Wildcats to the Final Four in Tampa and also a national title?
