Sure hope that cow is OK.

Given a lot of thought about this since I posted the above. We all need to let bye gones be by gones when a tragedy like this occurs. I never liked cows as they chased me in the fields in Kentucky when I was a child. None the less, I'm going to keep this particular cow in my prayers for a speedy recovery.

Actually, this is not as uncommon as you might think. Many states out west have open range. When I was on a Titan II missile launch crew in Arizona in 1962 or 63 one night, one of our two security guards called down to the control center, telling our crew commander that someone was out on the road, shooting and yelling, and wanted him to wake the second guard and send him topside. After we did that, one of them called back down and said the shooting and yelling was getting closer, and asked for advice as what they should do. The CO said, "Surround him". Tickled the crap out of me, trying to imagine two guys trying to surround someone. As it happened, the guy had hit a cow and totaled his car, out in the middle of nowhere. He was using the common signal for help, by firing three times in the air, and calling for help. When the guards told us what was going on, we called the sheriff's office, and got him some help.
