Losing the time he did is going to be tough for him to catch up but once he does he will be a force for the Cats.

Freshman Trey Lyles has not played in Kentucky’s five games in the Bahamas and said after Saturday’s win in Nassau that he was “working my way back” from an injury.

“I had an injury a couple months ago and just working my way back from it,” said Lyles during the postgame press conference.

He said it was his leg that was injured and provided no other details. Kentucky has also not said what the injury was other than to indicate it was not serious and should not impact his play this season.

“Me as a competitor, it’s very hard. But I’m just doing everything in my capability to get back out there as soon as possible. And it’s just fun to see everybody coming together as a squad and just thinking that in a couple weeks I’ll be out there with them and battle with them,” Lyles, the top-ranked recruit in UK’s freshman class, said.

“I’m probably two weeks behind Willie. I have one more CT scan I gotta go get, too.”

However, he knows what he can add when he gets back.

“Just hustle play, rebounding, scoring, just being a leader on the floor,” he said.

Assistant coach Barry Rohrseen said both Lyles and Cauley-Stein are on the “early bus” for practice every day.

Rohrssen isn’t worried about the two fitting into UK’s big, deep front court.

“We’ve got a pretty strong group of guys right now, and where they fit in is, Willie’s the veteran of those two and Trey’s the new guy of those two. They’re meshing nicely. They’re blending nicely. They’re probably chomping at the bit to get out there, and not just to be a part of this, but just to … as their career continues and grows, they want to be out there and I’m sure there’s some anxiousness there,” the UK coach said. “But again, you have to do what’s best for the athletes, and right now it’s best for them to sit this dance out.”

I don't understand a minor leg injury keeping a young man of his age from playing basketball for this amount of time. I just hope it is not something major like they are saying but there is a lot about both he and Willie's injuries that don't add up to me. I do hope both are completely healthy and ready for the season because both will be integral parts to our teams success this year.

SCWC,

I have no inside information so this is purely speculation on my behalf, but my guess is they are just being extremely catious with Lyles because they don't want this "hotspot" to turn into a stress fracture that could keep him out or damage his long term career. I think he will be able to suit up and play by the time Midnight Madness roles around in October.

Wife's Mad. Told me we never talk anymore. And just last nite while watching super bowl told her 2 or 3 times to get me a coke and popcorn. Also told her not to forget to take out trash in the morning. Ain't that something. Also told me I was too indecisive. Can't figure out what to do about that. One nice thing I guess. She called me a pro crastinator. Don't know what a crastinator is but I guess I'm a good one for her to call me a pro. Gonna wait til tomorrow to look that up though. I love her but somrtimes can't help but thinking I should have told uncle Junior to keep his coon hound pup and stevens double barrel and also his youngest daughter.

I've seen Lyles play live numerous times. I still contend, even after the Bahamas trip, that he is the best player on the team. The kid is super talented and has a basketball IQ that rivals Uliss, at least he did in high school.

Maybe the college game will be too quick for him, but I highly doubt it. The biggest knock on Lyles in high school was he gave the appearance of not playing with a MKG type of motor. I'm not sure that was fair. I think the game comes so easy to him that it gave the appearance of being non chalant a la Tayshaun Prince.
