It sounds like this team is already to go as they love to practice. It's a great sign for a great season. It's going to be a special year for sure.
The process of which John Calipari so often speaks is taking place now, step by step, piece by piece.
The University of Kentucky basketball coach gave fans a peek inside the program Thursday when he posted a video commentary on his website, CoachCal.com.
In that video, Calipari spoke about a training session he held with his team Tuesday before heading out on the recruiting trail Wednesday.
Under NCAA rules, coaches can conduct two hours of team skill instruction per week at this time of the year, and Calipari, two months removed from hip replacement surgery, sounded excited about his 2014-15 team and getting back on the court again.
The Wildcats will begin preparations soon for their August trip to the Bahamas, during which they will play six exhibition games. The team will be afforded 10 full off-season practices in conjunction with the trip.
In his 2 1/2-minute video, Calipari noted that the Harrison twins, sophomores Andrew and Aaron, have dropped weight and are well-conditioned. He also singled out some other individuals and explained what he is looking for from his players at this time of year.
And he said he likes the way this team goes about its business.
"These guys love to play basketball,” the UK coach said. "I’ve had other teams, they don’t want to play all the time. They don’t want to play every night. These guys on their own, they call each other, they text each other, let’s go, let’s get to the gym, and they play."
