It was one of the best moves I ever saw a Kentucky player make and he did not commit the turn-over.

Before looking, I'm gonna guess that it's the terrible call on Rondo where he faked like he was doing a behind-the-back pass and the defender lost his jockstrap. I think it was against Florida.

Check this video out as it shows many of his classic moves Rondo made in his 2 years at Kentucky. The Rondo-Patrick Sparks combination to me was the most fun to watch. They seemed to feed off of each other and made each other better. That pass that found Sparks open in the corner against Louisville and Sparks shot was probably my all time favorite play...

I didn't even remember that Sparks and Rondo were on the same team until I saw those videos.
Rondo was just an incredible point guard. I can't believe I read every day that the Celtics might trade him.

It was a great play but I believe he carried the ball. I think the ref made the right call. By keeping the ball he did a combination of carrying and too many steps.

Here is the move in slow motion which shows he did not take steps or break the dribble Section 13 rule:
[Section 13. Dribble
Art. 1. A dribble is ball movement caused by a player in control who bats, pushes or taps the ball to the playing court once or several times.
Art. 2. The dribble may be started by pushing, throwing, tapping or batting the ball to the playing court.
Art. 3. During a dribble, the ball may be batted into the air, provided that it is permitted to strike the playing court one or more times before the ball is touched again with either hand.
Art. 4. The dribble ends when: a. The dribbler catches or carries/palms the ball by allowing it to come to rest in one or both hands;He did not carry or palm it as the below video shows..
b. The dribbler touches the ball with both hands simultaneously;
c. An opponent bats the ball; or
d. The ball becomes dead.
Rule 4 / Definitions 47
Art. 5. An interrupted dribble occurs when the ball is loose after deflecting off the dribbler or after it momentarily gets away from the dribbler.
Art. 6. During an interrupted dribble, there shall be no player control, and the following cannot occur:
a. Player-control foul;
b. Granting of a timeout request; or
c. Five-second closely guarded dribbling violation.

Sorry but I still disagree. He picked the ball up on his right side and had it in his palm until he released it on his left side. That is the same thing as palming the ball, carrying it. The slow motion makes it easier to see it happen. It still was a great play.

The key phrase here is "picked it up". You can have the ball in the palm of your hand during a normal dribble, but that's not a "palming" turnover. Each time the ball is pushed to the ground during a dribble, the ball could be in the player's palm. I can watch that video 1,000 times and I will always say that he didn't "pick it up".
I just wonder why it took the ref so long to blow the whistle after that move. Rondo took two more steps and dribbles (and may have even passed the ball) before the ref did anything.

Palming the ball is another form of carrying the basketball. The rules of the game require that the dribbler keeps his hand on top of the ball when dribbling it. In order to increase ball control, players will slide their hand to the side of the ball and dribble by cupping the ball from the side and then taking it to the floor. That is not considered carrying, but when the hand slides {under} the ball, the violation occurs. Rondo's fingers and hands are so long and big he can and does magic with the ball and did not in the video put his hand underneath the basketball.

I guess we'll have to agree to disagree as the old saying goes. Reading what you said I watched it again numerous times and I still see him carrying the ball all around his back from one side to the other. I can't tell where his hand is, but he definitely palmed the ball while he was bringing it around his back.

Bama I think that's fair but it's also fair to say if there is one basketball player in the world that could do it, it has to be Rajon Rondo.

Bama, I just hope he doesn't end up like Derrick Rose and his torn acl. If he is ok he will have another 6-7 years of basketball at a high level. I was hoping he might be traded to a team who has some young talent that could make a run at another NBA title with him at the point. It would fun if he could play with Cousins and his buddy Rudy Gay in Sacramento.
