Lets say they all have good qualities. Their concentration is lacking a little. Their defense is lacking a good amount. The shooting is erratic. If they were to play a top 20 team or an SEC top team right now we could be in trouble. These teams were not as good as they were projected to be. We played 4 games and some of the players showed their better side in different games, except for Reeves. He showed he will be the leader of this team. Sheppard has lapses during the game but he usually makes up for it real quick. Edwards could be the #2 man. When he gets his defense and his shooting honed in he will be a possible 1 and done. Mitchell should work well with our bigs when they get well. We have learned how to play small ball and now we'll have to go back to the drawing board and learn how to play when we have a top goal defender and rebounder in there. Now we face the long wait after we got our senses dazzled a little. At least 100 days until we see them in action again. But before then, tell me it's not so. We don't really know if Bradshaw or Uno will either one be ready for opening day. Where have I heard this before? It's getting to be a part of the landscape with Cal's teams. Originally Bradshaw said he'd be ready in a couple weeks. Scratch that. Uno twisted an ankle. Oh yeah? Seems like the UK BB players keep the UK surgeons busy each year. It sure is puzzling how these things keep happening each year?

I liked the stretch five offense and the athleticism of this team. They passed the eye test. I was really impressed with Thiero, Sheppard and Wagner, Mitchell.

Both the way the team plays, and the index value he generates when he is on the floor argues strongly that Sheppard should be a starter. I really don't understand Cal at all sometimes.
I really like this team's cohesiveness and ability to find the open shooter. Very impressive early on. Defense and rebounding need some work, and if we do go with the small-ball approach, will always be a shortfall.
But, wow. This team is fun to watch! I couldn't say that for a while.

Another, possibly premature thought... the way that Tshiewbe played demanded a power inside game. The way that Mitchell plays fits perfectly this flex-based guard-rich team. Not sure that Onyenso will thrive in this system, and I just don't know enough about the other Freshman big. But, if they can learn from Mitchell, we can make this work!

I agree it looked really good at times. But just stop a minute and think about what we will face in the SEC. They are nothing like the competition we just faced. I agree Thiero will be better than Lance Ware. But how will he fare against the SEC. Mitchell is a hidden gem with his 3 pt capabilities if the defense doesn't play him tight. With the 4 guard offense Cal is in seventh heaven with the dribble drive. The guards can all execute it and showed that. But a lot of the time they looked like our last two years PG from GA. They are fast but they will have to decide quickly whether to shoot or pass. The next 3 months will be a challenge to Cal's repertoire of being able to mold this team with 2 unknown 7 foot quantities with a stable of guards. Could be anywhere to challenging for the final four to another of those 20-10 seasons we have been getting recently. I have no favorites on this team yet, except Reeves. They all have their reasons to be in the starting lineup at this point. [ 07-18-2023, 12:09 PM: Message edited by: Bama Cat ]
